The BSE Sensex index closed up 0.8% at a new all-time high of 47,354 on Monday, helped by gains in private-sector lenders, as investors across the globe welcomed a pandemic relief package approved by US President Donald Trump on Sunday. At the same time, hopes for a quicker economic recovery from the pandemic-driven crisis, alongside the launch of Europe's coronavirus vaccination programme and relief for a Brexit deal, also lifted sentiment. The Nifty 50 rose 0.9% to 13,873, a fourth straight session of gains. For the month, both Sensex and Nifty have added about 7% so far.
