It was one of the highest jobless rates on record, amid the coronavirus crisis. The number of unemployed rose by 1.288 million to 3.965 million while employment dropped by 2.419 million to 19.697 million. Meantime, the employment rate declined to 49.3 percent from 56.1 percent in August 2019 and the activity rate went down to 59.3 percent from 62.9 percent.

The unemployment rate in Colombia soared to 20.2 percent in July 2020 from 10.7 percent in the same month of the previous year. It was the second highest jobless rate on record amid the coronavirus crisis. The number of unemployed went up by 1.902 million to 4.559 million while employment decreased by 4.156 million to 17.984 million. Meantime, the employment rate rose to 56.2 percent from 45.1 percent in July 2019 and the activity rate jumped to 63 percent from 56.5 percent.
